The Thai General Insurance Association held a signing ceremony for the memorandum of agreement on the “Motor Vehicle Repair Timeframe Framework Among Non-Life Insurance Companies for Compensation of Loss of Use,” on 12 December 2025, with 32 non-life insurance companies signing on. This marks an important cooperation within Thailand’s insurance industry to establish a central standard for motor vehicle repairs, so that compensation for loss of use follows a clear and accurate approach, helping to reduce complaints, enhance the efficiency of claims payments, and build confidence among motorists nationwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Somporn Suebthawilkul, President of the Thai General Insurance Association, disclosed that the Motor Insurance Committee, Thai General Insurance Association, has established the motor vehicle repair timeframe framework as a “central benchmark” that can be applied by all non-life insurance companies, to be used as a criterion for compensating loss of use claims clearly and consistently across the industry, taking into account fairness to policyholders and reflecting the reality of current motor vehicle repair processes, which will help reduce disputes and the number of complaints regarding loss-of-use compensation. Therefore, establishing these criteria will help insurance companies systematically assess an appropriate number of days, and help policyholders receive compensation that reflects actual repair work, reducing disputes and increasing satisfaction with service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The motor vehicle repair criteria established by the Association are based on the key principle of fair time assessment that reflects genuine repair work, based on technical data from standard repair shops nationwide, considering 3 main components: the nature of the repair work, the number of parts, and the actual number of repair days. Setting this repair timeframe framework will help insurance companies have a clear, accurate approach that most closely reflects actual repair conditions, in fairly considering compensation for loss of use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In preparing the “Motor Vehicle Repair Timeframe Framework Among Non-Life Insurance Companies for Compensation of Loss of Use,” the Motor Insurance Committee held ongoing discussions with member companies operating in the motor insurance business, and exchanged data on actual repair work from repair shops nationwide, while listening to problems and suggestions from all companies, so that the established timeframe criteria could most fully reflect the actual problems and facts. Therefore, this signing ceremony for the motor vehicle repair timeframe agreement represents another important role of Thailand’s non-life insurance industry, reflecting the shared intent of all companies to develop clear, fair, and practically applicable motor vehicle repair standards, which will help reduce complaints, enhance the efficiency of claims payments, and build confidence among motorists nationwide. A total of 32 non-life insurance companies underwriting motor insurance signed the memorandum of agreement, namely:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    This memorandum signing is not only a shared standard-setting for the non-life insurance industry, but also “an important step toward a motor vehicle repair system that is transparent, verifiable, and fair to the public,” which will help reduce disputes, reduce the time for considering compensation claims, and give policyholders genuinely increased protection and confidence.
