Regarding the unrest that occurred along the Thailand-Cambodia border, which affected the lives and property of people in the surrounding area, the Thai General Insurance Association expresses its concern for those affected, both policyholders and the public in the area, and is discussing with non-life insurance companies to find ways to provide assistance, remedy, and alleviate the losses and damage that occurred.
Dr. Somporn Suebthawilkul, President of the Thai General Insurance Association, disclosed that the Thai General Insurance Association, together with member companies in the non-life insurance business sector, have jointly expressed their intent to provide assistance to policyholders affected by the events along the Thailand-Cambodia border, under the principle of putting people at the center, and the role of building security for society. Discussions have been held to find ways to remedy policyholders who suffered damage to life, property, and business, particularly people in the border area who were directly affected by the events, with confirmation that the non-life insurance business sector will act under principles of fairness, transparency, and with the interests of policyholders as the primary consideration.
“As an industry that plays an important role in supporting the country’s and society’s stability, we cannot ignore the suffering of the public. Many insurance companies are currently expediting special ad hoc assistance measures, such as paying humanitarian assistance, even though the damage in some cases may fall under exclusions in insurance policies.”
However, the Association advises people in risk areas or border areas to check their insurance policies to see what events are covered and what exclusions apply. Affected members of the public can contact their insurance company or the Thai General Insurance Association for further information and assistance approaches at 0 2108 8399.
The Association and the non-life insurance industry stand ready to cooperate with all sectors, both government and private, and stand alongside the public in every crisis, while maintaining the stability of Thailand’s insurance system to remain credible, transparent, and fair to all parties in line with international insurance principles, with responsibility to society and the mission of building security for the country, the President of the Thai General Insurance Association concluded.
