Thai General Insurance Association Attends Regional Workshop under the SEADRIF-RAISE Framework in Manila, Republic of the Philippines

The Thai General Insurance Association attended a regional workshop organized by the Southeast Asia Disaster Risk Insurance Facility (SEADRIF), through SEADRIF Insurance Company, together with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), during 10–12 February 2026 in Manila, Republic of the Philippines, under the concept “Regional Agriculture Insurance and Sustainable Economies (SEADRIF-RAISE).”

The workshop brought together over 50 experts from 8 countries: Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, and Japan, comprising representatives from government agencies such as the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, as well as representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat and the Mekong Institute, along with international partners such as the World Bank Philippines and the British Embassy Manila, to exchange views, best practices, and policy experience on agricultural risk management.

In this regard, the Thai General Insurance Association shared its experience in developing Thailand’s crop insurance system, which has been in operation for over 12 years, covering product design, risk management and transfer, data management and damage assessment, as well as cooperation between the public sector, private sector, and local stakeholders, while emphasizing that sustainably elevating the agricultural insurance market requires strong data infrastructure and risk analysis, appropriate risk transfer mechanisms, and risk reduction measures in tandem, which aligns with the direction of SEADRIF-RAISE in strengthening regional cooperation and supporting the private sector’s role, to enhance long-term risk protection for smallholder farmers and the agricultural sector across ASEAN.
