The three associations The three associations jointly established an organization to serve as the central body…applied to register it under the name:
“General Insurance Association” (GIA)
The registration was approved on 6 March 1967 (B.E. 2510).
The General Insurance Association GIA officially commenced operations on 16 November 1967. Mr. Wai Watthanakul served as its first President Mr. Wai Watthanakul served as its first President, and its membership comprised companies licensed to conduct non-life insurance business.
In 2012 (B.E. 2555), the Association’s Board of Directors agreed that the Association should be renamed to provide greater clarity and support its engagement on the international stage. The name was therefore changed from:
“General Insurance Association (GIA)” to “Thai General Insurance Association (TGIA)”
The new name took effect on 17 October 2012 (B.E. 2555).
The Thai General Insurance Association (TGIA)
has established its vision of becoming an organization that promotes and supports the non-life insurance industry as a sustainable pillar of Thailand’s economy and society. To realize this vision, the Association has defined four key missions, as follows:

To strengthen confidence in the non-life insurance industry, enhance its capabilities, and promote socially and environmentally responsible operations.

To promote and support industry growth through innovation and technology, while strengthening the role of the industry as a professional risk manager for both the public and private sectors.

To drive policies, regulations, and infrastructure that facilitate the growth of the non-life insurance business.

To strengthen an insurance ecosystem that supports stable and sustainable business growth.
Strengthen confidence and enhance the capabilities of the non-life insurance industry, while promoting socially and environmentally responsible business practices.
Advance policies, regulations, and infrastructure that facilitate the growth of the non-life insurance industry.

Promote and support industry growth through innovation and technology, while strengthening the industry’s role in providing professional risk management for the public and private sectors.
Strengthen the insurance ecosystem to enable the non-life insurance industry to achieve stable and sustainable growth.
In addition to operating in accordance with its vision and missions, the Thai General Insurance Association is responsible for promoting knowledge and understanding of non-life insurance through academic work and activities that benefit both the insurance industry and society.
The Association also works in cooperation with various government agencies under the administration of a 21-member Board of Directors. The directors are elected at the Annual General Meeting and serve a term of two years.
